She expresses a lack of surprise upon learning about a study linking vaping to an increased risk of cancer, as she had suspected the potential harm despite the marketing portraying vaping as a healthier alternative to smoking.

“I bought the Allen Carr book The Easy Way to Quit Vaping, read it and tossed my ElfBar in the bin in August 2022. I have been vape-free for 597 days and have saved a staggering £4,477”.

Isolde Walters, writing in today’s edition of The Times.

The study conducted by scientists at University College London revealed that vaping could trigger cell changes akin to those found in cigarette smokers, potentially leading to cancer.

Despite the government’s promotion of vaping as a tool to combat smoking, the writer argues that most users harboured suspicions about its health risks.

Having been a nicotine user since adolescence, Isolde switched to vaping about five years prior, initially enticed by its lack of social stigma, pleasant flavours, and perceived cost-effectiveness.

However, she soon noticed alarming respiratory symptoms and addictive tendencies associated with vaping.

The convenience and high nicotine content of vapes made them difficult to quit, leading to excessive daily use to the point where she was vaping almost constantly and considerable financial expenditure.

Isolde’s decision to quit vaping 18 months ago was driven not solely by health concerns, but also by the isolating dependency it fostered.

She describes how she overcame the addiction by reading Allen Carr’s Easyway to Quit Vaping book written by Allen Carr & John Dicey saving £4,500/US$5,750 within the first 600 days of quitting.

Many of Isolde’s friends also struggle with vaping addiction, with some finding reassurance in the acknowledgment of its health risks.

Despite the prevalent belief that vaping is a healthier alternative to smoking, she asserts that the difficulty in quitting raises questions about its true impact on health.

In conclusion, Isolde suggests that vapes are not the panacea they were once believed to be, but rather a plastic version of the original harm of smoking.

She says her personal journey highlights the complexities of addiction and the deceptive allure of vaping as a purportedly safe alternative to traditional cigarettes.
