The Growing Worldwide Team – Norway
We are very lucky to have so many amazing people within Allen Carr’s Easyway organisation across the world. Some smokers find it really hard to imagine that it is possible to stop smoking easily as opposed to battling to give up smoking as they have done in the past. In searching for a way to quit smoking it can often be inspiring for them to hear how our team around the world has been brought together. This is the latest installment in a series of features that look at the journeys taken by members of Allen Carr’s Easyway To Stop Smoking Therapist team; from being some of the most addicted and active smokers on the planet to becoming happy non-smokers and world-leaders in the field of stopping smoking.
Rene Adde, Allen Carr’s Easyway Norway writes:
I started smoking at age 19 during my first year in University. I was just going to try it out for a short while (or so I thought). I never imagined that I would continue with it for 23 years and end up smoking more than a pack a day (even more when attending social occasions and on vacation).
At some point I realized I was “hooked” and thought that changing over from Menthols to regular would help me quit – but it turned out to be nothing to do with the taste of cigarettes.
I gave up even trying to quit for the next 20 years. After that I made some attempts using willpower and going cold turkey, but that didn’t last for more than a day of misery.
A family member told me about Allen Carr’s stop smoking book in December 2003. He didn’t light up after our dinner (as he would normally do) during the holidays and I asked why he wasn’t smoking. He said he had quit smoking! I was so surprised, especially as he seemed so HAPPY! I was so curious as to how he’d done it. He talked about how “easy” it was. “EASY?” I got him to tell me the name of the book – in Norwegian it is called “Allen Carr – FINALLY A NON-SMOKER” (Endelig ikke-røyker).
I finally got the book and after reading it I was exactly as the title said “Finally a non-smoker.” But not only that, I was A HAPPY NON–SMOKER and finally felt so FREE!! I couldn’t believe how easy it was, and why I had waited so long to get the book!
I was so excited about it that I contacted the stop smoking clinic in Oslo to find out how I could become a therapist and help others quit smoking with this method. After arduous training I started as a therapist in November 2005. I took over the operation of the stop smoking clinics in Norway in October 2008.
I love that I get to spread Allen’s message through the clinics here in Norway as part of the global Allen Carr’s Easyway family! It really is that simple!
