Helping Lambeth foodbank users to quit smoking

Our latest pilot scheme in partnership with Lambeth Council has proven to be a roaring success – not just in terms of the number of smokers signing up for the live quit smoking seminars – but in terms of the numbers doing so from some of the more deprived and disadvantaged areas and communities within the borough – and the most in need.

Quit smoking scheme designed to ease some challenges of the cost of living crisis amongst the most in need

With the National Institute of Health & Care Excellence (NICE) recommending that smokers attending local authority smoking cessation services should be offered Allen Carr’s Easyway to Quit Smoking Live Group Seminars (available via Zoom or “in the room”) we’ve had a massive increase in interest from across England’s 333 local authorities.

As a proud Londoner who for the past two years has been working with the World Health Organisation to help smokers in some of the poorest countries in the world – it is a wonderful opportunity to help some of those closer to home in great need, during such challenging times.

It’s long been my dream that Allen Carr’s Easyway to Quit Smoking Live Group Seminars shouldn’t be solely available to those with the means to fund their own attendance, or those whose health insurance companies or employers do, but also to those who might not otherwise be able to afford it. Naturally, this is often a demographic made up almost entirely of hardcore, die-hard smokers in hard to reach, deprived communities. Lambeth Council, Lambeth Together, and a host of food banks, community groups, and charities combine in Lambeth to do everything in their power to reach out and support the health & wellbeing of exactly those residents of the borough.

Allen Carr’s Easyway really wanted to emulate the ground-breaking work by all those parties in Lambeth by exciting as many smokers as possible about this great opportunity to quit, especially those most in need and arguably, hardest to reach. We didn’t want them miss out on their golden opportunity to get free from smoking.

With hundreds of smokers signing up in record numbers in record time via our traditional and social media campaigns and efforts it was an absolute pleasure to also introduce THE GOLDEN TICKET via foodbanks, health & wellbeing hubs, libraries, and even the Citizens Advice Bureau.

THE GOLDEN TICKET flyers included positive messaging of support & encouragement to give the seminars a try and featured some of Allen Carr’s Easyway’s greatest celebrity clients; those who have already been successful with the method. Former smokers such as Lemn Sissay (pictured on the London underground), Michael Ball, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Michael McIntyre, Jonah Hill, and Lee Mack to name but a few.

It’s been fabulous to meet some of the brilliant people out there helping residents of Lambeth and we’re looking forward to meeting even more of them in the future as the time to extend the project draws nearer.

It’s been a real pleasure to add Lambeth to the ever-growing list of local authorities who are benefiting from record levels of smokers signing up to quit as a result of our dynamic, multi-faceted, outreach efforts using cutting edge social media campaigns as well as good old fashioned sidewalk pounding involvement in communities.
